National Projects

Ovarian and Breast Cancer

The 50th National Convention established Ovarian Cancer Awareness as a new National Project for Kappa Epsilon. Every year a survivor speaks to the college about the silent symptoms of the disease and the importance of early detection through increased awareness. In 2012, Kappa Epsilon incorporated a breast cancer awareness luncheon into our yearly events. Lunch is provided and all donations go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Painting the 34th Street Wall

Every year our new member class is asked to help raise breast cancer awareness by painting Gainesville's 34th Street Wall. Some past phrases have included “Don’t let breast cancer steal second base” and “A feel a day keeps the doctor away.”

Rwanda Sustainable Families

Rwanda Sustainable Families (RSF) is a local charity founded in Gainesville that provides micro-loans for Rwandans to start businesses. The goal of the project is for the Rwandans to become self-sustainable and to help keep their children in school. RSF volunteers also traveled to Rwanda to build a library, playground, and five concrete rain cisterns, which provide fresh water to the entire village.

Kappa Epsilon has helped support RSF by donating school supplies and sewing supplies. These materials allow the children to comfortably attend school and the women to expand their small businesses, many of which include making jewelry or clothing. KE also volunteered at the annual Art Show. The Art Show provides an opportunity for the Rwandans to sell handmade items throughout the Gainesville area.
